Her work seeks to investigate the extent to which paper made from weeds, invasive plants, and recycled materials may be a solution to many ecological and economic problems that face our world today.
Create a three dimensional felted vessel using a resist in this hands-on workshop. Wet felting is a process of turning wool into fabric without any need for spinning and weaving. Spend 3 hours learning the basics of wet-felting techniques, including a bit of felting history. You will learn how to lay out sheets of fiber and use a plastic resist to create a 3D wool vessel suitable for eco-printing or choose to work in color.

This workshop session will engage both lecture and hands-on exercises to introduce and apply dynamic typography strategy and practice. The topics explored in this session will include: Introduction to typography, understanding typeface anatomy, text design principles, effective text layouts, and using color effectively in text design to produce a 11” x 17” poster.
Environmental artist Albertus Gorman will lead a group art making workshop utilizing materials sanitized and collected from the Ohio river. Styrofoam, driftwood and other flotsam and jetsam to create relevant and original works of art. This workshop is designed to encourage creativity and thinking about our relationship to the natural world.
This class will explore hand embroidery as a form of drawing with a focus on the characteristics of the individual mark and how one can artistically utilize and push the mark of the needle for their own artistic purposes. Through direct drawing, transfer and projection students will build technical skills and methodologies for idea development. Traditional drawing techniques such as contour, gesture and hatching will be addressed and considered in terms of application with embroidery. Students will learn basic-to-advanced embroidery techniques, including various stitches, appliqué techniques, and three-dimensional building of textiles. Bring an article of clothing you would like to repair or embellish.

Wende Cudmore has designed fashions for the annual couture fashion show at the Kentucky Museum of Contemporary Art. She works meticulously pressing, dyeing, and drying natural matter to create stunning works of wearable art with fabric she creates. Learn some basics about this process in this workshop with Wende where students will be using vegetables to create their own papyrus paper that can be used in fiber creations.
Art Educators of Southern Indiana know Al Gorman and are thrilled to share his eclectic art and respect for our waterways. For nearly 30 years, Al has been the Artist at Exit0, unofficial artist in residence at the Falls of the Ohio and shows work in the Interpretive Center too. For the past three years, Al has been the Kentucky Waterways Alliance’s first “Artist in Residence” which is a mantle he’s looking to pass along. His water advocacy work appears in Morgan Atkinson’s recent documentary on the Ohio River. Al is an Artist, curator, environmentalist and author.

Learn the art of traditional Ukrainian egg decorating known as Pysanky (PIH-sahn-kih). Attendees will have the opportunity to decorate 2-3 goose eggs during this session.
The workshop will teach you how to get your students to apply the Elements & Principles of Art with a Rule of Thirds composition and create an artwork expressing emotions/feelings that represents them. (1st semester about summer, 2nd about school. Slideshows will be provided. In addition a showcase video will show the works created in Spring of 2024. The workshop can apply to all ages, but it is best with middle schoolers and older. Mixed media is encouraged. Participants can bring anything they would like to use.
